Obituary:
Donald King Garland, 74, of De Kalb, Texas, passed away Thursday, January 26, 2012, at Titus Regional Medical Center in Mount Pleasant, Texas.

Donald was born October 9, 1937, in De Kalb, Texas, to Frank and Lorraine McGowan Garland. He was the first Licensed Black Barber in De Kalb, Texas. He worked at Lone Star Steel, the City of De Kalb, and later at Annona Screen Door Factory, where he retired. He was a member of Mt. Pisgah CME Church in De Kalb, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James “Bunn” Garland and Ralph Garland, Sr.; and a grandson, Ray Sturgis II.

He is survived by his wife, Jerrie D. Garland of De Kalb, Texas; five daughters and three sons-in-law, Pennie Jackson of Dallas, Texas, Tyres Reneae and Ray Sturgis of Belleville, Illinois, Donna Garland and Ron Lamar of Apple Valley, California, LaHonda and Stacy Boyd of Ft. Worth, Texas and Juanita Garland of Ft. Worth, Texas; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Bessie Starling of Tampa, Florida and Odessa and Joe Haugabrook of Tampa, Florida; eight grandchildren, O'Donnis Garland, Ebone Sturgis, Ahmir Lamar, Aurielle Lamar, Stacy Boyd II, Sa Maria Boyd, Destiny Davis-Boyd and Jennifer Jackson.

Services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 4, 2012, at Mt. Pisgah CME Church in De Kalb, Texas with Revs. Danny Traylor, Melvin Gray and Delphine Germany officiating. Interment will follow at Garland Cemetery in De Kalb, Texas.

Visitation will be held 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. Saturday, February 4, 2012, at Mt. Pisgah CME Church, De Kalb, Texas.
