Tuesday, January 12, 2010 Bates Family Funeral Home Obituary: Horace Crew Haddock, 81, born August 5, 1928, in the Spring Hill Community, De Kalb, Texas, departed this life on Saturday, January 9, 2010. He is survived by his wife of 58 years; Margaret Haddock; one son, Mark Haddock of Texarkana, Texas; two daughters and a son-in-law, Rebecca McClain of Texarkana, Texas and Deborah and Ronny "Doc" Holloway of Simms, Texas; two granddaughters, Lisa Holloway and Julie Holloway of Simms, Texas; four grandsons, Adam McLain and Noel McLain of Texarkana, Texas, Martin McLain of Denison, Texas and Mark McLain of Pottsboro, Texas; a great granddaughter, Kelly Holloway of Simms, Texas; one sister, Mattie Lou Brewer of De Kalb, Texas; a brother, Byron Haddock of Idabel, Oklahoma; great granddaughters, Britany, Megan, Brandi, Mercedes and Jennifer McLain of Denison, Texas; great grandsons, James, Austin and Cole McLain of Pottsboro, Texas; five great-great grandchildren and numerous other relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Mary Calvit Haddock; a son-in-law, Jim McLain; a sister, Alma Leigh Waldron; and a brother-in-law, Johnny Brewer. Mr. Horace or "Hoss Fly", as he was affectionally known, owned and operated Haddock's Station and Truck Stop on Highway 259 N. De Kalb for some 35 years. Then the family moved to Branson, MO. for about 4 years and owned a convenience store there. They moved back "home" in 2000 and settled in Liberty Eylau. He was a loving husband, daddy, and deedad, brother and friend and will be truly missed by everyone. Mr. Haddock was a member of Spring Hill Baptist Church where he served as Deacon and music director. He loved the Lord, his family and music, a trait that he passed on to his children. Visitation will be 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Bates Family Funeral Home. Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at Bates Family Funeral Home with Bro.
